In addition to reviewing this Privacy Policy, please read our User Agreement. Your use of the The New Yorker Compass constitutes agreement to its terms and conditions.
All surveys are being conducted for market research purposes. We value your participation, and we are interested in hearing your opinions. The following is a summary or the various ways we treat the information you provide us while a member of The New Yorker Compass.
Collection of Personal Information
To join The New Yorker Compass, we invite you to complete a brief registration survey that gathers some personal information. We ask that you provide your name and e-mail address so that we can send you e-mail invitations to participate in Web surveys. The additional personal information we gather during surveys (which may include your online purchase habits, employment information, household income, gender, etc.) will be provided to The New Yorker for research purposes and will assist us in providing you with opportunities to complete additional surveys that are relevant and interesting to you. In addition, we may be required by law to ask for your Social Security number to comply with reporting laws and regulations if you are the recipient of high-value survey incentives (e.g., cash or prize valued over $599).
MRI may also collect information about your computer hardware and software. This information may include (among other things) your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses. This information is used by MRI, and may be provided to The New Yorker for the operation of our Websites and services, to maintain quality of our services, and to provide general statistics regarding use of our Websites and services.
If you participate in a survey and elect not to join The New Yorker Compass online panel, we will preserve your e-mail address for the purposes of contacting you if you are eligible to receive a survey incentive (e.g., you are a prize-drawing winner) and may share your e-mail address for use by The New Yorker.
Attention, kids
If you are under the age of 13 (12 or younger), you may not provide any information about yourself to this site. While you may view content on the site, you may not register with the site, enter any of our sweepstakes or contests, or participate in any of our chat rooms, bulletin boards or other activities that would let you enter information about yourself. If we learn that you have provided information about yourself to this site, we will delete such information.
Usage and Sharing of Personal Information
The New Yorker Compass member information is stored in our proprietary database, and used to deliver invitations to Web surveys. If MRI believes your profile makes you a potential candidate for a particular study, MRI may send you an e-mail invitation to make you aware of the survey opportunity. MRI may also use your personally identifiable information to inform you of new survey technologies and other New Yorker Compass services.
MRI may share data with trusted third parties to help us perform statistical analysis.
MRI may share your personal contact information with The New Yorker so The New Yorker may send you information on exciting events in your area and for other advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes. The New Yorker will not sell your e-mail address to any third party. However, unless otherwise specified, The New Yorker may share e-mail addresses and sell or share all other information with its affiliates and with carefully selected companies who may offer you services and products of interest to you. If you do not wish to have your information shared, e-mail us at newyorker@mediamarkinteractive.com. If you do not wish to receive communications from us, simply follow the unsubscribe instructions contained within the e-mail.
MRI may also share your personal (but non-identifiable) data with our clients who request this information for use in aggregate analysis. For example, MRI will provide The New Yorker with data collected from all New Yorker Compass surveys, with variables such as age, household income, or gender from the registration survey appended to the file. This is primarily designed to save our panelists time and effort, so they do not need to re-answer these questions on each and every survey. These appended data, however, will never include personally identifiable information such as your full name, mailing address, or e-mail address.
Finally, MRI will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on MRI; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of MRI; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of MRI, its Websites and services, or the public.

As we continue to develop our business, MRI or The New Yorker might sell or buy additional assets. In such transactions, the information you have voluntarily provided in your user profile would generally be considered one of the transferred business assets. Any sale or transfer of MRI or The New Yorker or substantially all of its business assets, which included The New Yorker Compass, would likely be to an entity that agreed to comply with all of the material terms of our Privacy policy.
